I don’t recall my family owning land. I remember living in an extended (and very small) room that was provided to us, an apartment, there were a few others that I can barely recall but where I grew up in, it was a squatters area. Yes, I used to live in an overcrowded area, full of screaming children, adults who made it a habit to loiter, gamble, drink, and talk. That is the community I was raised in, however, anybody who knew me cannot tell the difference. It’s just the environment after all, how I would turn up is still my choice. However, my personality or attitude is not the point I want to raise. This is a post to show how badly I want to have land to call my own. Or my family’s.
As of writing, the house where we live in Las Pinas is officially ours. We initially bought it for P70K. I paid for the rights while my mom worked on the transfer to her name. My mom painstakingly paid everything that needs to be paid just so she could stake a legal claim. In all fairness to Gloria compound, a lot has changed and no one would ever think that it was a hard core squatters area before. The houses now are renovated and beautified. Somehow I feel pride knowing that we were able to accomplish such. But then again, the title is named after my mom, not mine.
Now that we are almost finished with the car payments, our attention is focused on one thing alone- our very own home. You see, renting a place is only ideal if it is for a temporary setup. I know most would agree that nothing beats the feeling of owning a place they could live in. This plan is what I am most excited about. An investment and something that we could give as an inheritance.
We plan to get a lot in Antipolo. This is ideal for us since the location is quite high, not that busy, and the price of land on most parts is not that expensive yet. Plus the fact that the city is slowly booming, commercial establishments are being put up everywhere as I write. The air is still fresh and cool, and the view is spectacular. Once we figure out how we will go about financing, we also plan to build a house of our design.
What we envision for the design is this: double doors for the partitions, master bedroom, and Geoff’s bedroom. Total of 4 bedrooms and 3 t/b, and a maid’s quarter. There will be a living room, kitchen, dining area, garage, balcony, and a garden. I should also have a spare space for the mini library and crafts room. We are also eyeing a color scheme that is minimalist and zen. This way, the ambiance will be relaxing. We also want to invest on environment friendly materials such as LED lights. Thinking about everything is making me giddy with excitement again. I really can’t wait.
Before ending this post, I want to impart a quote. This quote will be a reminder that anything is possible as long as you have faith, determination, and someone who is willing to stand by you, and assist you all the way, everything is possible.
“All life demands struggle. Those who have everything given to them become lazy, selfish, and insensitive to the real values of life. The very striving and hard work that we so constantly try to avoid is the major building block in the person we are today.” -Pope Paul VI
